NEWG Updates
Not really a whole lot going on out there today. There are a few showers traversing northern Maine as we discussed yesterday, but nothing overly wash-out level.
Tomorrow, the showers are still looking more widespread with steady rain moving in overnight into Friday.
I’m not writing off Friday completely yet, but it will definitely vary depending on where you are. We’ll look at that some more later on.
I do want to share some exciting news with you.
I will direct your attention to southern New Hampshire on the radar map where you see the little circle emblem. You may have noticed this on some of my maps over the past week. Through a partnership with SDS Weather (the parent company of RadarOmega), myself, and the Hudson, NH Fire Department (host site), we have installed a state-of-the-art weather station called CyclonePort. This is the ONLY one of its kind in New England, and the northeast in general with the next closest units being in Port Colborne, Ontario (just outside Buffalo, NY) and Charlotte, NC (at Bank of America Stadium). The Hudson Fire Department graciously allowed some space on their new radio tower to hold the instruments while I provide the maintenance and connections.
This system consists of all real-time lightning monitoring and tracking, sophisticated rainfall monitoring, wind direction and strength, temperature, barometric pressure, and a live camera to view current weather conditions. We are still working out some of the bugs with the system and I expect it to be fully online in the next couple of weeks. All of the CyclonePort weather stations can be accessed through RadarOmega.
SDS Weather is the same company that I am working with on developing my weather app, which will include data from the CyclonePort weather station, as well as direct input from myself and not just model based data like most other apps out there. This is still in the development process as they are testing out some new features with other apps for other locations of the country. This should be going live within the next couple of months.
